The Age of Aquarius

In my Witches of Griffin series, the sisters mention that we are entering the Age of Aquarius. The Age of Aquarius (air sign) begins when the March equinox point moves out of the constellation of Pisces and into the constellation of Aquarius. It is not a part of astronomy, but an astrological age that occurs as the Earth moves through the procession of the equinoxes. With 12 constellations in the Zodiac, the cycle of procession usually lasts 25,868 years. The Aquarian Age is the astrological time period we are currently moving into as we leave the Age of Pisces. Aquarius is considered the last sign of the zodiac. According to astrologists, we move into a new astrological time period roughly every 2,150 years. Nevertheless, Astrologers are not all in agreement as to when this moment of moving into the Age of Aquarius will happen. Some astrologers adhere to the International Astronomical Union, who claim it won’t take place until 2597, while others claim it already began in 2012. Both sides have scientific reasons behind their beliefs.

The Age of Pisces marked the years 1-2000 AD, which coincides with the Age of Christ and Christianity. The sign of Pisces is known for universal love, creativity, intuition, deep spirituality, and compassion. Early Christians used a fish (a symbol of Pisces) as a secret symbol of their faith. Pisces also rules the feet, which is why the ritual signifying purification of the spirit is done by washing the feet. There is a strong need for seclusion in Pisces, which is seen in convents, retreats, and spiritual pilgrimages, whereas Aquarius emphasizes group activities and community. The sign of Aquarius is symbolized as a water bearer, a man pouring water from an urn or a pitcher.

The Age of Aquarius hit popular culture in the 1960s and 70s and has returned with the New Age movement. Like in the past, the Age of Aquarius movement revolves around harmony, understanding, and sympathy towards others. The 1967 musical, Hair had a hit Broadway song called Aquarius by 5thDimension. Their song brought the Aquarian Age concept to the attention of audiences across the world. The song begins with the line, “When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars.” According to a 2018 Pew poll, 29% of Americans say they believe in astrology, and seventy million people read their horoscope on a daily basis.

Many believe as we traverse into this new age a type of awakening will occur. Astrologers believe that astrological age affects people and that the movement of Earth influences the rise and fall of civilizations and cultural norms. Each Astrological Age is said to have its own energy signature that is accompanied by lessons and themes. The energy signature of the Age of Aquarius promotes Divine Order, truthfulness, and harmony. The Aquarian Age is said to be an age of higher, connected consciousness, a type of Christ Conscious; where ego is set aside, the veil of corruption and deceit is lifted, and peace and harmony step forward.

In the Bible, (Luke 22:10) when Jesus asked his disciples where the next Passover would be, some believe he pointed to the coming Age of Aquarius by saying, “Behold, when ye entered into the city, there shall a man meet you bearing a pitcher of water… follow him into the house where he entereth in…” The constellation of Aquarius is a man carrying a pitcher of water. Isaiah 60:4 states, “Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.” Some believe this scripture is informing us that advanced beings, archangels, and aliens will incarnate on Earth to advance humankind and Mother Earth during a new Golden Age. Although there are people who equate Bible passages to the Aquarian Age, there are also people who view astrology as a form of occult divination, and they point out that such practices are denounced in the Bible, like in Deuteronomy 4:19, “And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.”

Many in the New Age movement believe that as we move into a new equinox, past values are reexamined and many are changed or removed completely. It’s a type of red-pill moment when people begin to question authority and false narratives. The Piscean Age valued money, power, and control, and since these values do not resonate with the values of the Age of Aquarius, they are released. The Age of Aquarius represents cooperation, humanitarianism, and peace. The Age of Aquarius is also linked with technology, communication, and information gathering. The Aquarius job is to challenge authority and tear down existing structures to create something better. As I look around and see people questioning the so-called authorities or experts, and questioning the propaganda of corporate media, I can’t help but think we have entered this Golden Age. The Age of Pisces says, “I believe,” while the Age of Aquarius says, “Prove it to me scientifically.” To which I would add, “And make sure the scientists are not bought and paid for.”
